Rancho Mission Viejo: Southern California’s “Agrihood” for All Ages

04/21/2014

While doing research for a future multi-generational master plan in an agricultural area of Northern California, our Vice President of Advisory Adam McAbee recently toured Village I of the Rancho Mission Viejo master planned community in Orange County, California. The following video was taken by Adam while in the field, and provides insights into elements that make this next generation master plan successful.

Some of these key insights include:

  • Primary and age-restricted housing can be successfully offered in the same master plan.
  • The integration of agriculture into a master plan creates a unique, central amenity that can be shared by all (the New York Times recently featured Agrihoods across the United States).
  • The blend of indoor/outdoor space in new home product is important in areas such as Southern California.
